29th July 2011
22nd July 2011 A list of the trade and craft stands booked so far this year is featured, with links, on our Traders Page. The July edition of the newsletter has been published and can be viewed here We are pleased to welcome to the 2011 show the
Abingdon Works Centre of the MG Car Club.
The Club has its origins in the Works Auto Club of the MG car factory located in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, from 1929 until it was closed by British Leyland in 1980. The MG Car Club, formed in 1930 and with its headquarters still in Abingdon, is made up of several geographical Centres covering the UK and, with the closure of the factory, the AWC was centred around Abingdon covering Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Hampshire and currently has over 1400 members. Although it is the newest UK Centre, it has the significant responsibility of covering what, for most, is accepted as the spiritual home of MG. Consequently many events organised by the Centre are featured around the MG Abingdon history. For example, the annual Old Speckled Hen Tour commemorates the association between MG and the Abingdon brewer Morlands (now part of Greene King in East Anglia) who brewed Old Speckled Hen in 1979 as a tribute to the MG factory and the golden jubilee.
