Thursday 27th May 2010:
We are proud to announce the line-up for the air show , which will begin at about 12.30 weather permitting. Our first display sequence will be the Turweston Trio, comprising some exciting formation flying with 3 Flying Club aircraft, followed by a Cirrus, and an LAA aircraft. The next display is The Seeley Collection: the vintage Miles Whitney Straight and Gypsy Moth based here at Turweston. And finally we have Aircraft Then & Now: an aerobatic display with an Extra 300 flown by Rob Berger & the Jungmeister flown by Jez Cooke.
Commentary will be provided throughout the air show and indeed the whole event by Mr John Matcham who has lots of experience in this area. The PA system has been suitably improved and we hope we will also have a wireless mic so John can do some roving interviews.
We also plan to have some competitions for the exhibits, categories to be announced later, and have put in place a tentative timetable for things that will be happening throughout the day (below).
As always, if you have photographs and stories about your club, aircraft, motorcycle, static engine, tractor or military vehicle that you would like to share please do send them to us so we can feature them on our website

Morris Traveller |
 |
This beautiful Morris Traveller is a 1971 model, one of the last. It has had 7 previous owners, and when Desmond Swords bought it 18 months ago it had suffered some neglect, as it had been brought up to show standard in the 80's and not 'loved' since. Desmond and his wife Angela now have it looking really smart. It is used regularly in the summer, and on dry winter days, but because of the wood, they do not like to take it out in the rain! The Traveller's registration is NBP 29J, and it, together with Desmond and Angela, live locally. |
Stephanie King's Vauxhall Mk2 Cavalier |

|
I bought this Vauxhall Mk2 Cavalier in 2006 when I came across it in a barn. It is a 1.8 8v CD Hatch, and is an early example being an A reg. It originally belonged to an old lady who bought it from new in 1983 to go to the shops in once a fortnight! When she died it was transferred into the daughters name and stored in a barn with only 7k on the clock up until about 2002 when it was dusted off and lent to one of the stud hands to get to and from work. This added another 38k to the mileage in a couple of years until it was put back in the barn for me to find!
When I bought it, it had slight corrosion on the wheel arches and sills, that was about it! So I had it repaired and it flew through an MOT a few weeks later! I then drove it as my daily drive for a year and loved every minute of it! Right up until someone managed to drive into the side of me on a roundabout narrowly missing the B pillar by a few mil and caving in the rear door on the driver's side and taking the paint off the wheel arch. Eventually had the door replaced and the whole side re-sprayed, also while it was there I had the rear door on the passenger side which was starting to rust behind the bump strips replaced and that side re-sprayed as well to match in. After this, I didn't have the heart to drive it everyday so it became my show car.
Last year I had the wheels refurbished to the original colour which made a big difference to the appearance to the car! But that’s all I’ve had to do to it, which for a 26 year old car really isn't bad! Other than the necessary work done, the car is standard and how it came out the factory. Whilst many people remember driving these cars and don't regard them as a classic, it's older than I am! And will be a future classic as numbers are rapidly decreasing now. |
Diesel Engine and Corn Mill
|
 |
Seen here relaxing at Wings & Wheels 2009 (and who wouldn't in that fantastic sunshine we had) is Steve Moore with his PETTER PAZ1 diesel stationary engine, dated August 1964 and E. H. BENTALL corn
mill. Steve will be joining us again in September. |
Charles Busby's Morris 8 |
 |
This beautiful Morris 8 two-seat tourer was built in 1935 & has been extensively renovated with some work still to do. It has the original UB type engine with a 3 speed gearbox & 6 volt electrics. The car cruises at 40mph and gives a mpg of 35.
We are thrilled that owner Charles Busby is bringing the Morris to Wings & Wheels 2010. Accompanying Charles on the journey to Turweston are dogs Skye and Benson. Visit our gallery to see them at work! |
