Notice: Regarding Helicopters at Turweston.
Following the Public Inquiry held in October 2007 the Planning Inspector dismissed Turweston Aerodrome’s appeal for a Certificate of Lawful Development to allow helicopters on the Cabbage Patch. However since a further Public Inquiry was pending for January and February 2008, at which an application to allow helicopters on the airfield proper was to be heard, the Inspector extended the period for compliance to four months from the date of his decision.. This period expires on 23 rd March 2008.
It had been expected that the Public Inquiry would be over in February and the Inspector’s decision on all matters given by the end of March, before the compliance period had expired. Unfortunately due to circumstances beyond our control the final day of the Inquiry has been postponed until 11 th April, with a decision hoped for sometime in May.
We therefore have no option but to comply with the Inspector’s decision not to allow helicopters after 22 nd March, pending his decision on our appeal. Accordingly, we will not be allowed to operate helicopters on any part of the airfield, including the Cabbage Patch, until further notice.
We hope that this will be a short-lived arrangement, and apologise for any inconvenience it may cause. We very much hope that you will visit Turweston again if the appeal is decided favourably. We shall of course keep you informed of any developments.
Please note that this does not affect helicopter activities during Silverstone Grand Prix weekend when helicopters are permitted on both the airfield and Cabbage Patch. The dates for the 2008 British Grand Prix are Friday 4th to Sunday 6th July. We look forward to seeing you!
